HIM 1440 - Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy for Allied Professionals

Prerequisite(s): BSC2084 with C and HSC2531 with C

Corequisite(s): HIM2722C


This course is designed to study the systematic approach to the basic disease processes in terms of etiology, symptomatology, general pathological changes, diagnostic procedures, and testing and types of treatment. This course will also teach general pharmacological concepts and principles, drug mechanisms of action, therapeutic drugs and indications, contraindications associated with drug therapy and medications related to body systems, common signs, symptoms, and side effects. The course reviews the FDA, drug schedules, common medications, adverse effects, and relevant laws. There is a focus on the relationship between pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical coding. The course must be passed with a grade of C or better. Note: Projects within the course may require use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and the Internet.
