BSC 2416C - Cell Culture and Applications in Tissue Engineering

Credit Hours: 3.0
Prerequisite(s): BSC2423C with C
Corequisite(s): None
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of tissue engineering with respect to the biomaterials, cells, and growth factors used in a typical project. Topics include cell and tissue biology, biomaterials, drug delivery, engineering methods and design, and clinical implementation. The principles underlying strategies for employing selected cells, biomaterial scaffolds, mechanical loading, and culture conditions, for the regeneration of tissues and organs in vitro and in vivo will be addressed. Laboratory techniques associated with specific applications including skin, nerve, bone, blood vessel, and soft tissue regeneration will be taught at an introductory level.
