Law enforcement officers perform their duties effectively by interacting with the diverse members of their communities. In any communication with another person, there are three main components: the sender, the message, and the receiver. It is imperative that officers in the field are capable of adapting their communication styles to meet the needs of the people they are interacting with, eliminating potential miscommunications that may jeopardize an officer’s effectiveness or safety.
