Officers face many dangers as part of their jobs. Yet, danger can come from the most unexpected place, such as an officer’s own firearm. Failure to cautiously and consistently follow rules of firearm handling can result in injury or death. Every officer must acquire proper training on the specific model of firearm he or she will carry and use before touching, handling, or loading any firearm.
