NSC 2121 - Naval Ship Systems 1 (Naval Engineering)Credit Hours: 3.0 Prerequisite(s): None Corequisite(s): None This course is designed to provide an elementary overview of Naval engineering systems and a detailed knowledge of the principles behind ship construction. The topics covered include ship design, hydrodynamic forces, stability, conventional and nuclear propulsion, electrical theory and systems, interior communications, damage control, hydraulics, and ship control. Included are the basic concepts of the theory and design of steam, gas turbine and diesel propulsion. Primary emphasis is placed on helping the student acquire an overall view of shipboard engineering plants and an understanding of the basic theoretical considerations that underlie the design and operation of machinery and equipment.
