Coding and billing professionals provide reliable and valid information for reimbursement, research, statistics, and policymaking. This job requires a unique blend of skills. A coder/biller is a specialist who analyzes health information; can convert the health information to diagnosis and procedure codes that assist healthcare providers to receive proper reimbursement.

The Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Medical Coder Biller, Applied Technical Diploma (ATD), program includes biomedical classes that clinicians are required to take as well, such as Anatomy Physiology, Medical Terminology, Pathophysiology/Pharmacotherapy, students will also learn computer technology, such as the EHR, reimbursement, and data resources.

Coding professionals work in a multitude of settings throughout the healthcare industry including hospitals, physician offices and clinics, long-term care facilities, insurance companies, government agencies and home care providers.

All courses in this certificate program apply toward the AS degree in Health Information Technology. Students are prepared to take AHIMA national coding certifications and/or AAPC coding certifications; students decide.

The program requires satisfactory test grades in the College Placement Test (PERT) in reading and writing prior to beginning the program.
