Santa Fe Graphic Design Technology A.S. Program Unleashes Creativity

So, you’re interested in the world of graphic design? We like that!

Here at Santa Fe College, we don’t just teach graphic design; we cultivate a community of like-minded creatives. In this degree it’s not just about mastering the tools of the trade; it’s about forging connections, both with your craft and with those around you.

  • Students move through the four semesters sequentially in a lock-step format which allows for continued interaction and collaboration with one another.
  • The Graphic Design Technology program semesters are divided into A and B terms. Students take two 3-credit hour courses in each A and B semester for a total of 12-credit hours combined. This intensive method allows for students to focus on two in-depth courses at a time while also gaining the benefit of learning how to work quickly through the creative process.
  • Around here you will hear your professors say things like “trust the process” and “don’t be afraid to make ugly”. Amongst the nuances of design, we seek to encourage you to explore and find your voice and your hand in your work. There is great satisfaction in seeing your designs come to life and knowing that you’ve made a meaningful impact. There are many tools, but they are merely tools. You are the creative.
  • This degree focuses heavily on developing both the technical and creative skills needed to prepare graduates for the demands of the graphic design industry. As such we continue to connect with professionals across all aspects of the graphic design industry, including bringing them into our classrooms as guests who meet one-on-one with our students and as speakers who bring insight from their respective fields.
  • In the final semester, a 4-credit hour internship is required to complete the Graphic Design Technology degree. We also support our students by hosting an internship fair with local companies and organizations to assist them in landing an internship.
  • Annually, we host a professional portfolio review with local, regional, and national design professionals who review completed portfolios with each graduating student. Additionally, we encourage our students to enter award competitions such as the American Advertising Federation ADDY awards. Historically our students have received recognition in local, state, and national competitions.
  • Our graduates of the Graphic Design Technology A.S. program are highly sought after due to the reputation this program has gained over 30+ years. Graduates have been employed by companies such as: IBM Design, three five two, SCAD Media, Frankel, PGA Tour, Uber, Hobby Lobby Corporate, NCCER, Exactech, and Purple Rock Scissors.
  • This is a limited access (application required) and full-time (12 credit hours per semester) degree program. 15 students per semester are selected for Fall and for Spring starts (no Summer starts). Applicants to the A.S. Graphic Design Technology program must complete 5 general education pre-requisites with a C or higher and contact the coordinator of the program for advising prior to completing the application to the program. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA or higher in pre-requisite coursework. Students can be accepted conditionally prior to completing all 5 pre-requisites based on program space and academic progress.
