The associate of science degree in Surgical Services prepares students for employment as surgical technologists. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of surgeons to ensure operative procedures are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. They assemble and organize necessary equipment while maintaining a sterile environment. Surgical technologists help prepare patients for surgery and assist during the procedure. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and surgical equipment is vital to facilitate a physician’s performance of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
